Write up for “Smalls DFARS regulations”

On Wednesday, October 16th a “Smalls” event was held at the National Cybersecurity Center in Colorado Springs. The main topic of the event was the new compliance framework for government contracts. The following discussion was on the likelihood for a strict and rapid adaptation as soon as the 2020 deadline is reached. The consensus of the evening was that there will likely not be a grace period, or an early soft enforcement of the new protocols. The new compliance metrics were created in response to the $600+ Billion in IP theft over the last several years. The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) standards are broken down into levels, which are then further divided into directions, then further again into requirements.

The deadline for compliance is June 2020. If a contractor is not compliant CMMC at the required level, they will unable to bid on any contracts. The level of CMMC compliance relates to the security required for the project in question.

DevilDog Cybersecurity were the main speakers at the event, giving a much more detailed breakdown of the new requirements needed in the near future.
